Form & Field Archive of Construction Vol. II / Fol. 001

FORM FIELD

An archive of how furniture is made. Not a shop and not a studio — a record of construction, drawn to scale, taken apart and labelled.

A chair is an argument about load. Everything visible about it — the profile, the timber, the cloth — is downstream of a decision made at the joint, in the dark, where nobody looks.

001

VECTOR

SVG geometry drawn along its own path length, then translated part by part. No raster, no video — every line you are about to watch is resolution-independent and weighs nothing.

CSS 3D

Real depth in the browser's own compositor. Six planes in a shared 3D space, rotated and separated on the Z axis — no library drawing pixels, only transforms the GPU already knows how to do.

WEBGL

Geometry built from primitives at runtime and drawn by three.js — but timed, eased and scrubbed by anime.js. One motion system driving the DOM and the GPU from the same clock.

Set in Instrument Serif and Archivo. Drawn in millimetres. Printed nowhere.

FORM & FIELD keeps no stock, sells nothing, and answers no enquiries about price. It exists to record how a thing was put together, so that it can be put together again.

Full disclosure

FORM & FIELD is not a real company.

There is no archive, no specimen FF‑218, no settee. Everything you just scrolled through — the identity, the drawings, the catalogue, the motion — was built by Helium Digital as a demonstration.

You watched three different rendering techniques in one page. A vector construction drawing that draws itself. A six-layer cutaway in real CSS 3D. A WebGL object with anime.js on the other end of every transform. One motion system, one scrollbar, one brand.

Most agencies pick one of those and call it a website. We will build all three into yours — and make them mean something about your product rather than about our showreel.

Technique 001 Vector SVG that draws, morphs and explodes on scroll.
Technique 002 CSS 3D Real depth on the compositor. No canvas, no cost.
Technique 003 WebGL three.js geometry, anime.js timing, one clock.
